Meet Our Optometrists
Dr. Amy Abbott O.D.
After practicing Optometry on both coasts, Dr. Amy Abbott has chosen to call Maine home. Dr. Abbott was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington and a Doctorate in Optometry at Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Abbott began her career in Optometry in 1991 as a technician in a Mokena, IL practice. Clinical experience includes a three-month internship at the VA Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, a three-month internship at Sheppard's Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, and a three-month internship at the Optometric Vision Development Center in La Jolla, California.
Dr. Abbott came to Maine as a result of meeting her husband who is from the Lisbon area. When not in the office, Dr. Abbott enjoys being outdoors running with her dogs, biking, or playing Frisbee. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband reside in Falmouth. Dr. Abbott is board-certified and licensed by the Maine State Board of Optometry.
Dr. Michelle Higgins O.D.
Maine is also home by choice for Dr. Michelle Higgins. Originally from Bellevue, Ohio, Dr. Higgins received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Miami University, located in Oxford, Ohio and a Doctorate in Optometry at Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Higgins has been involved with the Optometry industry for 13 years. Dr. Higgins began her career in Optometry in 1993 as a technician working with Dr. Michael Morrison in Hamilton, Ohio.
Clinical experience includes a three month internship at Alaska Eye Care Center in Anchorage, Alaska, a three month internship at Wolfe Eye Clinic, in Ames, Iowa, a three month internship at University of Chicago hospitals pediatric unit, in Chicago, Illinois and a three month internship at White River Junction VA, in White River Junction, Vermont. Dr. Higgins is board-certified and licensed by the Maine State Board of Optometry.
When not in the office, Dr. Higgins enjoys biking and playing in the outdoors of Maine. She lives with her fiance Rich and their two cats, Surf and Turf.
